RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a protocol that permits news feeds. It's like a news ticker for the web. The file extension for a RSS feed is .xml - whilst the .xml can be 'read' with a web browser, it will not pick up the news feeds for you, and will look like gibberish. Several newspapers and television stations have RSS news feeds available on their websites, often indicated by an orange "RSS" or "XML" icon.
To use RSS, you first need to configure a "News Reader" program, like the ones below:
