From WikiMac, Everyone's Mac Knowledgebase

Hi David. You're now a bureaucrat, but as I said on IRC, it could be buggy, so do let me know if there are any problems. For a Chinese version, which way would you like the URL?

zh.wikimac.wikicities.com/
wikimac.wikicities.com/zh/
something else?

If you have a new logo you'd like to use, just upload it to Image:Wiki.png (once image uploading is enabled) or email it to me and I'll see what I can do. Angela 08:32, 10 Nov 2004 (PST)

Hi David, image uploading is now enabled (you'll need to be logged in for it to work) and http://zh.wikimac.wikicities.com should be available today or tomorrow. Angela 23:02, 10 Nov 2004 (PST)

Hi David. Crosslinking between wikicities - how to? UniversityWikiNodeWiki:Main_Page. Mattis Manzel 04:20, 11 Nov 2004 (PST) Should be http://universitywikinodewiki.wikicities.com/index.php/Main_Page and http://universitywikinodewiki.wikicities.com/index.php/User:MattisManzel. How to do that?

Links such as UniversityWikiNodeWiki:Main Page aren't going to work until we've set up the interwiki links table. Angela 04:40, 11 Nov 2004 (PST)

Hi David. Pages can be saved on zh now, but the interlanguage links still do nothing. Angela 08:32, 11 Nov 2004 (PST)

Hi David, we have been discussing the site titles and would like to suggest that "WikiMac" is renamed something more generic, such as mac.wikicities or macintosh.wikicities. This will help people to find Wikicities on a topic they are interested in without needing to know the title of it. What do you think? I'll leave changing the Chinese title until a decision is made about the English one.

I think the reason that the Help and About pages for WikiMac ZH point to Wikipedia is due to errors in the languagezh.php file. The links are pointing to [[Wikipedia:About]], which from here is an interwiki link. It ought to point to [[{{ns:4}}:About]]. I'll fix this now.

Interlanguage links are bug 34 on the todo list.

You can change the interface by editing the pages linked to from Special:Allmessages. You will need to temporarily set your language in preferences to the same language as the interface you are editing. Let me know if you need any more help on this, or see MetaWikipedia:MediaWiki namespace. Angela 13:22, 12 Nov 2004 (PST)

I think the links to Wikipedia have all been removed from zh now, using the Chinese interface at least, but let me know if you find any remaining problems. Angela 14:41, 12 Nov 2004 (PST)

[edit] Logo size

[17:18] <DavidFeng> i've a question: how big are the pics for the site logo (pixels)?

Sorry, I was in Birmingham all day so I only just saw your question. The logo size is width 135px, height 155px. Angela 16:20, 16 Nov 2004 (PST)

So what logo were you thinking of using? An apple? --CocoaZen 12:24, 9 Dec 2004 (PST)

[edit] Thanks!

David - Thanks for the welcome! (I'm Robin. Unfortunately when I changed some preferences, it seriously messed up my account, so I created this one.) In addition to my interest in Macintoshes, I'm professionally interested in groupware. So, I'm very interested in how Wiki's can be used. - Robin / CocoaZen

Thanks again! I have an older version of Safari, so I didn't know that RSS was already integrated. (I have an older vesions of OS X too.) At some point, I'll have to catch up.  :-)
Fire is an IM tool. I'll link it in on the browser page, unless I hear differently from you.
I know I could just go ahead and make changes, but I'm asking because I think you have a vision for this wiki that is more cohesive than my ideas so far.
Would software be a good category?

[edit] Admin access

Hi David. Sorry I missed you on IRC. Everyone has lost admin access since the latest update to the software. I'm waiting for Jason to fix this, since I've also lost mine and therefore can't make anyone else a sysop at the moment. Angela 13:27, 20 Dec 2004 (PST)

The admin rights seem to be working again now. I love the new logo. Angela 12:57, 23 Dec 2004 (PST)

[edit] Happy New Year!

... at least according to one calendar system.
Hope you have a happy, healthy 2005!

[edit] Advertising

Please see wikicities:talk:advertising for news and problems about the ads which were recently added. If they appear at the top of the page, pressing ctrl and F5 should move them to the right place. Angela 22:01, 14 Jan 2005 (PST)

[edit] Thank You

David Feng

Thanks for welcoming me here! I'm happy that I can help out with this project. Just found this site this morning while doing some random browsing. I would like to help out more, but then I have my finals coming up next month, so I'll be studying pretty damn hard. I'll try contribute whenever I have free time or when I'm bored with studying. Anyway, I hope I can help out with anything related to Hong Kong and maybe more! Let me know if you need help! One thing, it would be nice to have sort of a wanted page, so that it's easier to find topics that need more work on. Just random suggestion.

[edit] Other Languages

Hi David,

Can you add spanish language to wikimac? I'm very interested to confribute to WikiMac in Spanish.

Thanks for all.

[edit] Request for Template Assistance

David - Could you please create a translation for the zh-0 template for the Wikicities? It's for use on user pages to indicate that the user cannot communicate in Chinese.
To understand more about how these templates work, please see Bable templates on the Wikimedia Meta site for more information about the language templates in general, the Central Wikicity's page on how to add Babel templates or the examples for people who cannot communicate (or at least not well) in English: the category page, Wikicities:Category:User_en-0, and an example user page Wikicities:User:The_Saitou.
The formatting of the box doesn't matter. I can change it to fit the standard, but I can't write the Chinese for "This person does not understand Chinese (or understands it with considerable difficulties)." and "These users cannot communicate in Chinese.". Could you please write the translations for me? Thanks! --CocoaZen 22:24, 5 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I'm going to ask Daniel Wang, who is proposing to start a Chinese <-> English translation wiki. --CocoaZen 22:17, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Wrong Title

Hi. I added a script to the Template:Wrongtitle so that the right title would come up. All you need to do, since you are the only admin here, is to add this to your MediaWiki:Common.js Or copy paste ** "Technical restrictions" title fix ******* from the en: If you need any help, drop me a line in my talkpage. --Steinninn 13:16, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
